Approximately 120 species are known up to date, out of which 104 are found nowhere else in the world.
Amphibians.lk is a centralized database contains images, description of each species, range and distribution maps, identification keys, vocalizations and videos. The main objective of the website is to disseminate knowledge and facilitate their conservation. You can also contribute by submitting your observations.

Major Groups
Rhacophoridae
Tree frogs belong to this group. Mostly arboreal. Very few species found on wet rocky substrates and forest floor. The tips of the fingers and toes are expanded into disks
Bufonidae
True toads belong to this group. The skin is dry and having warts. They have a pair of parotoid glands on the back of their heads. Lay eggs in strings
Dicroglossidae
Known as fork-tongued frogs. Mostly aquatic. Toes webbed. Fingers slender and pointed.
Microhylidae
Known as narrow-mouthed frogs. Characteristic short, narrow, pointed snout with globose body. They become even more rounded when senses danger.
Nyctibatrachidae
Only two species in Sri Lanka. They have a characteristic wrinkled body and two teeth like processeson on the lower jaw. Inhabit in slow-moving streams and marshy habitats.
Ranidae
Only three species in Sri Lanka.They have smooth moist skin, powerful hind limbs, webbed toes and distinct tympanum. Commonly known as true frogs.
Ichthyophiidae
They do not have limbs. Fossorial and found near streams and lakes. Eyes are small, lie beneath the skin and rudimentary in function
